Working within the constraints of 3D

Collaboration sits at the heart of much of what we do. Sometimes that means working directly with clients. Sometimes it means partnering with other production companies when projects call for specialist expertise.

NINJA video house was engaged by The Jasper Picture Company to oversee production of the 3D animation component of Flight Centre's Cruise Sale campaign, helping bring an ambitious anamorphic billboard concept to life across multiple large-format displays.

Large format 3D billboards create exciting creative opportunities, but they also introduce very real technical constraints. Understanding where those boundaries exist is an important part of the creative process. Decisions made during storyboarding and pre-production significantly influence what can be achieved during animation and rendering.

Many of the most important conversations on this project happened before a single frame was animated. Creative ideas were refined around the realities of the medium, production timelines and the unique requirements of large format anamorphic displays. Sometimes the strongest creative decision isn't adding something new, but simplifying an idea so it can be executed exceptionally well.

Projects like this are a good reminder that production isn't simply the process of making things. It's often the process of helping ideas find their most effective expression within the medium they're created for.
